The full moon is a powerful time to connect with yourself, raise your vibration, and turbocharge all of your desires with love and appreciation.

In this article I'm sharing my full moon ritual for releasing, celebrating, and simply connecting with yourself through holistic self-care.

What is a full moon ritual?

A full moon ritual is simply connecting with yourself, your guides, your inner being, nature, or whatever it is that lights you up. It's a night of celebration, gratitude, and releasing.

The full moon is the most powerful energetic phase of the moon. I don't know which I love more between the new and full moons, but both are a perfect time for a sacred self-care ritual.

We set intentions during the new moon, root them during the waxing moon, and now is a time of manifestation, celebration, and releasing pent-up energy and blockages.

As a result, anything you are feeling or doing will be amplified by the energy of the full moon, so be intentional about what you want to bring into your life!

How to do a full moon ritual

Let go, connect with your higher self, and enjoy the night.

Take inspiration from other's rituals, but make it your own and tailor it specifically to what you need. It will make it all the more sacred and transformational for you.

Here is my simple yet powerful full moon ritual for releasing and simply celebrating.

    1. Clear space & ground

As with any ritual you do, begin in a quiet or sacred space.

My space is my nightstand which is home to all of my sacred items and tools, but all you need is a special, quiet spot.

    sacred space

The way I like to ground myself is to first become still, taking a few deep breaths all the way down to my lower stomach/womb.

I then light incense and a palo santo stick to energetically clear myself and my area, and I also love lighting a candle and placing any crystals I'm called to closer to me.

    2. Release & forgive

Since setting your intentions during the new moon, you've likely encountered blocks that came up for you and emotions around all of it. This is good because, for an intention to manifest, the resistance around it needs to soften.

However, if you haven't done a new moon intention setting, don't sweat it. Just address any blocks you're currently feeling.

Think about what you've experienced in the last two weeks, and even better, write it down. Use a journal sheet to write freely and allow yourself the space to just release what's on your heart and mind.

Allow yourself to feel how you truly feel. Write down any fears or negative feelings you have about your intentions; don't be afraid to acknowledge these.

They came up for this very reason, so you can acknowledge them in the light and let them go. Fears that are kept in the dark feel bigger and more real than they are, so let it OUT.

Once you've done your ugly-cry writing, write down specifically what you are ready to release and let go of, and then write down who or what you are ready to forgive.

For instance, this could be another person, a situation, or yourself. Send love to them or yourself and feel gratitude for the clarity the experience brought you.

After that, you could fold this paper up and burn it, either over your kitchen sink or outside under the moon. Visualize the smoke going up to the moon, taking this burden off of your shoulders. Feel the lightness of having it gone.

    3. Amplify gratitude

Since the full moon will amplify whatever energy you put out, this is a powerful time to express appreciation for all that is going well in your life.

I especially like to write appreciation lists during both the waxing and full moon phases because this is the time for growth and manifestation, and nothing speeds up that process faster than acknowledging what is going well.

Write down as many things you can think of that you're grateful for. If it's hard to think of something, just start small. When I was in the hardest financial time of my life a few years ago, I expressed gratitude and appreciation for the smallest things in my life, like my bed and fridge.

The amazing thing about appreciation is that it will instantly begin to raise your vibration and attract abundance towards you. The key is to actually feel gratitude for what you have.

As you keep adding to your list and truly reflect on how each thing majorly impacts and improves your life, you will begin to feel yourself bursting with complete gratitude and love.

THIS is the magic that will shift your life dramatically and quickly.

While doing this, know that the intense energy of the full moon is amplifying these feelings which increases the rate of manifestation of everything you consider to be good.

    4. Charge your tools

    Charge your spiritual tools

Spiritual tools that carry their own energetic frequency and vibration absorb your energy and the energy around them throughout the month. There are many ways to clear and charge these tools, but one powerful way is to set these items out under the energy of the full moon.

Gather all your crystals, divination tools, favorite jewelry, and any other sacred items, and take them outside for a moon bath. Depending on where you live and the current weather conditions, place them where they will not be damaged.

A windowsill that gets direct moonlight is perfectly fine if you can't get your items out under the moon.

    5. Energetically renew & release

What ritual wouldn't be complete without a bath? Water is symbolic of cleansing and recharging. Draw a hot bath and place any salts or oils you feel called to put in.

Epsom salt is always a go-to of mine because it physically and energetically cleanses you. Light candles around your bath and turn out overhead lighting.

Allow yourself to submerge into the dark and stillness, connecting back to the spiritual realm and yourself. Visualize this water recharging you after everything you've released tonight. Know that your doorway is cleared and open, and you're ready to receive everything you've intended to receive.

    6. Celebrate

Last but not least, celebrate, in whatever fashion you would like to do that.

For some, it would mean going out with friends, for others it would mean making your favorite food, getting a glass of wine, and watching your favorite shows–the important thing is that you're letting go for the night.

Celebrate your growth and experiences over the last two weeks, as well as any manifestations that are occurring for you.

I hope sharing my full moon ritual gave you some ideas to incorporate into your own ritual. As I always say, tailor it to fit YOU. There is no right way to do a moon ritual.

Love this! I followed your New Moon ritual earlier this month and it was amazing.

I'm looking forward to trying this, especially since the full moon is taking part in my own moon sign of Pisces.

      Thanks Jessica! xx

I need to do this with my crystals, I’d love to put them in the dirt too! I am a little worried about doing that as I live in the woods and there are a lot of little creatures around. Hah I’d dislike losing my rose quartz to a squirrel. Hah.

I hadn't even thought of squirrels! I'm over here in the desert so there isn't much that would carry them off, but I'm glad you mentioned that because I'm moving to NC next year!

Release and forgive, that is the biggest one for me. I don't want to hold onto what has hurt me in the past for the upcoming year, so I will have to work on that. This was a wonderfully written post- thank you so much for this xx

I would just spend the time feeling grateful for health and ramping up my feelings of strength and vitality. Let the full moon energy speed up your recovery.

Is it important/a positive thing to do a negative energy release during a full moon when the moon is in the sign of the person with whom you associate the negativity you need to release?

I think it's a positive thing to do whenever. The moon's energy will only magnify whatever emotion you're focusing on. And I personally believe that everyone is truly a reflection of ME in some way, so I would focus less on them and more on the feelings that are within me around them.

Any alternatives for a bath? We haven't had a functional/usable bathtub for more than 20 years (even though I'd love one!), so what can I do instead?

A shower will do! I have string lights in the bathroom to create a sacred, relaxing ambience, and I just visualize the water washing away and clearing my energy.

      Hi! I have a question!

How does it affects me when the full moon or new moo is in my sign?

When it's in your sun sign, you might feel more at ease and at one with yourself, and when it's in your moon sign, you might feel more sensitive/emotional. You'll feel the energies of the full or new moon more intensely when they're in your sign.
