The solar plexus chakra is the third of the seven main chakras in our bodies, and when this chakra is open and healthy, we feel confident, have a strong sense of self, and can healthily assert ourselves.
In today’s blog post, I’ll share how to heal and open your solar plexus chakra. This is a free chapter from the guide and worksheet bundle Sacred Self-Care for Your Chakras. The guide includes two guided healing worksheets for each chakra, which can be included in a self-care ritual.

What is the solar plexus chakra?
The manipura, or solar plexus chakra, is found in our solar plexus (upper part of the belly) near the adrenal glands and endocrine system. It's in this chakra that we carry our feelings of independence, self-assurance, intellect, and decision-making. I think of it as our center of personal empowerment.
The color associated with this chakra is yellow, and its element is fire.
How to balance your solar plexus chakra
Balancing a chakra is quite easy and also spiritually illuminating. You can tell when any chakra is out of balance because it can cause both physical and emotional symptoms within us.
Chakras become blocked due to common occurrences such as stress, past traumatic experiences, and emotional upsets.
When the solar plexus is balanced and open, you feel self-assured, decisive, calm, self-disciplined, and confident in your abilities and judgments. You're able to put your plans into action, directing your life towards what you want to manifest.
Signs that it's out of balance
Physical organs related to the solar plexus chakra are: digestive functions, liver, gall bladder, stomach, spleen, small intestine, pancreas, autonomic nervous system, lumbar vertebrae, diaphragm, and immune system–so if you're having trouble or health issues relating to these areas, your solar plexus chakra is likely imbalanced.
An imbalanced solar plexus chakra can cause chronic fatigue, digestive issues (stomach pains or anxiety), stomach ulcers, liver dysfunction, constipation, hypoglycemia, blood sugar disorders, hepatitis, diabetes, addiction to stimulants, poor memory, high blood pressure, bulimia, obesity, and anorexia.
Emotional signs your solar plexus chakra is imbalanced: not moving forward and taking action due to fear and/or rejection, difficulty controlling emotions, taking too much action (micromanaging and feeling the need to control everything), feelings of helplessness or the opposite–feeling egotistical and arrogant.
Let's get started on how to begin opening and balancing your solar plexus chakra. I'm first going to share some crystals, essential oils and affirmations that will help you in balancing your solar plexus, and then I'll be sharing physical and emotional healing as well as a self-care ritual.

Crystals for the solar plexus chakra
Stones and crystals are a form of energy healing that you can use to help open your chakras and keep them healthy. You can read my post here about how they work and how I use them personally. You can lay the stone in the area of your body where the chakra is located, carry it in your pocket, or wear it as jewelry.
For stones that absorb negative energy, make sure you are clearing them frequently. Amazon has a beautiful crystal chakra set that comes with a crystal for each of the chakras, but here are crystals specifically for healing the solar plexus chakra:
Amber (not truly a crystal but fossilized tree sap) transmutes negative energy into positive, provides strong psychic protection, is great for inner child work and trauma release, aids in clairsentience, draws disease from the body, increases feelings of calm and peace, and relieves stress and depression.
Citrine: stone of self-healing, regenerates and detoxes your spiritual self from daily negative exposure to other energies, increases energy and drive, uplifts mood, promotes optimistic attitude, helps to treat issues related to the urinary tract, kidneys, and digestive system, helps regulate imbalances in the thyroid, helps to relieve constipation, strengthens the spine, improves blood circulation.
Golden Calcite: brings physical and mental energy, builds self-esteem and courage, helps in recovering from the emotional effects of abusive situations and relationships, and encourages responsibility, self-worth, and confidence.
Golden Topaz stimulates the solar plexus, strengthens self-belief, increases optimism, neutralizes cancer activity, enhances meditation, connects the spiritual with the physical, enhances wisdom, helps one forgive, increases physical and mental strength, is often used as a talisman, and promotes harmony.
Orange Calcite stimulates creative and sexual energy, helps with depression and phobias, motivates one to act on divinely inspired ideas, heals sorrow and grief, increases confidence, brings insight, helps release old patterns, and eases stomach-related and fertility issues.
Sunstone: relieves depressive thoughts, uplifts spirit, clears all chakras, extremely useful in removing hooks and cords from your aura to draining people, removes codependency, facilitates self-empowerment, helps with seasonal affective disorder during winter months, increases self-worth, relieves stomach ulcers and chronic sore throats, helps with rheumatism and general aches and pains.
Tiger Eye brings clarity and personal power, increases self-discipline, grounding, patience, determination, and courage. It aids the entire digestive system, stimulates brave but sensible behavior, and enhances psychic ability.
Yellow Jasper carries the energy of the sun, promotes positivity/happiness, heals, relieves depression and anxiety, increases self-confidence in social situations, inspires one to accomplish tasks, boosts positive energy, relieves travel sickness, and is used for digestion, nervous system, skin problems, and breathing disorders.
Choose a crystal based on how drawn you feel to it; that crystal is likely what your body/mind needs the most.
Essential oils for the solar plexus chakra
I am a strong advocate of aromatherapy and essential oils' healing properties. I use essential oils daily and keep roll-ons and sprays in different parts of my home so that I can easily apply them throughout the day to keep me feeling grounded.
You can buy or make aromatherapy mixtures, or you can use essential oils alone, such as a few drops in your bath's Epsom salt, mixed with a carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil for a massage, or dabbed onto certain parts of your body.
I personally use and trust the brand Plant Therapy and they sell directly from Amazon as well, which I like. Below are essential oils that help with balancing and opening the solar plexus chakra:
Black Pepper: relieves aches and pains, aids in digestion, lowers cholesterol, is antiviral, helps circulation, has anticancer activity, eases anxiety, helps with cigarette cravings, helps to detoxify the body, is an appetite stimulant, food preservative, eases joint pain
Cedarwood: helps with connection and loneliness, helps to calm and relax, natural decongestant, grounding earthy aroma
Cinnamon: decreases inflammation, relieves depression, fights viruses, increases circulation, stimulates immune system, fights parasites, helps with digestive issues
Clove: joy, prosperity, abundance, treats digestive and respiratory problems, energizing, fights bacteria and fungus
Coriander: detoxes and purifies the blood, helps to eliminate excess gas from the body, relieves depression and stress, aids in digestion, improves appetite, helps maintain good stomach health, eliminates mouth and body odor, relieves muscle and joint pain
Cypress: creates emotional balance, helps with feelings of anxiousness, aids in calm feelings while also energizing
Geranium: alleviates menopausal effects, balances hormones, relieves stress, reduces depression, improves circulation, reduces blood pressure, increases urination
Ginger: stimulates circulation, helps digestion, anti-nausea, used for natural pain relief
Grapefruit: diuretic and lymphatic stimulant, treats UTIs, reduces yeast and bacteria responsible for candida, relieves stress, increases detoxification and urination, lowers sugar cravings, lowers inflammation, increases blood flow, eases headaches, menstrual cramps, and muscle pains, increases mental focus, acts as a mild antidepressant
Juniper: helps with skin issues such as acne, relieves stress and helps to clear the mind, relieves sore muscles and joints, natural sleep aid, contains strong antioxidant properties, natural insecticide, promotes and improves circulation, removes excess gas from stomach, relaxes muscle cramps, helps to stop hair loss, cures toothaches, removes toxins from body, helps to overcome fatigue and depression
Lemongrass: reduces stress, relaxes muscles, improves blood circulation, diuretic, menstrual cramp relief, treats stomach issues, relieves headaches, treats digestive disorders
Mandarin: purifies the blood and removes toxins, facilitates digestion and excretion, protects from ulcers and stomach infections, promotes the growth of new cells and tissues, strengthens the liver, relieves stress and inflammation

Meditation and visualization can be used for so much energy healing. I've read that meditation is the most powerful and quickest way to begin opening and balancing your chakras.

Affirmations are powerful ways to reprogram your subconscious mind to hold new beliefs and begin manifesting a different reality. At first, an affirmation might feel silly, but the more you repeat it to yourself, the more natural and true it feels. That's when you know your subconscious has accepted it, and your life will powerfully shift.
Below are affirmations to help heal your solar plexus chakra:

Healing Foods for the Solar Plexus Chakra
Like crystals and essential oils, all food carries specific energy that can help to heal us energetically. The following foods help to connect with and heal the solar plexus chakra:
- Yellow colored foods: bananas, pineapples, corn, yellow peppers, yellow lentils,
- Starches: granola, whole wheat bread, cereal, oatmeal, flax seed, brown rice, quinoa
- Teas: peppermint, chamomile

Physical & Emotional Healing
Since the solar plexus chakra relates to our willpower and self-confidence, doing activities that help calm and inspire you would help you to get in touch with this chakra. Meditation or writing in a journal would be two great ways to bring inner peace and release any anxiety or stresses you are holding onto.
Here is a great yoga session specifically for the solar plexus chakra, and here is another that focuses on energizing willpower and motivation.
I know for sure that I have tremendously healed my solar plexus chakra with sacred self-care. Taking time to be alone, letting go of my worries, and getting closer in touch with my intuition have all helped to raise my confidence levels and the amount of love and trust that I have for myself.
Since the solar plexus chakra affirmation is "I WILL," spend time discovering what you truly desire in life and reflecting on your accomplishments so far.
Throw anything you believe about yourself out the window if it doesn't promote your confidence. We have a tendency to believe certain aspects about ourselves if it says it's "true" in our personality type reports or our birth charts, etc. You are what you believe you are at any given moment, regardless of what anything says.
Define what you want to be and then believe it into being.
Healing Ritual for the Solar Plexus Chakra
After everything I've learned while researching the solar plexus chakra, here is my plan for a mini self-care ritual anytime I want to balance and open this chakra:
Ramp up your inspiration
Since this chakra is all about your willpower and self-confidence, do something that will help clear your energy AND invigorate you. Go for a run, lay out under the sun, listen to music, get sweaty in a workout–something that brings you joy or pleasure and that also gets you in an inspired-feeling place.
Journal
Once you've ramped up your inspiration a little, get your journal or a piece of paper and let everything out. What stresses and fears you've been holding onto, how you've been feeling, what you're ready to let go of and what you're ready to invite in.
Create a list of self-limiting beliefs
After journaling, write down any lingering fears on another piece of paper. Then, take a sheet of paper and fold it in half, with one side representing your self-limiting beliefs and the other representing your new, empowered beliefs.
Write out all of your fears and negative beliefs, no matter how silly they feel. This is how you empty the irrational, subconscious beliefs that are holding you back from manifesting the life you want.
On the other side of the sheet, replace your fears with new beliefs that excite you. It doesn't matter if you don't really believe them yet; just make sure they're something you want to believe. Look at your new beliefs daily. This will train your subconscious to accept them as your new reality.
Connect with Source
In whatever way you receive guidance from Spirit, do that now. My favorite method of divination is through pulling cards, so that's what I would do at this point. Use the solar plexus tarot spread and receive guidance for what direction and energy you should focus on.
Write down your new intentions
Once you've done everything above, you'll likely have some good ideas on directions you want to take and desires you want to manifest–write them down at this point (and watch them manifest)! What do you want? How do you want to feel? What do you want your life to look like? You can have anything you imagine, so don't limit yourself.
Meditate & Visualize
Take a moment to sit with your Spirit and show the Universe through your visualizations what you want to attract into your life. Breathe. Release. Get excited and feel the gratitude pulsing through your body.
Create a vision board
As an extra bonus step, create a beautiful vision board if you feel inspired to do so. Cut out photos of things that excite you and that you want to bring into your life. Cut out words that describe how you want to FEEL and BE. Make it uniquely YOU.
Put this board where you can see it every day so that your subconscious begins to see it as your reality. It won't be long before you are manifesting this vision in the most mundane and powerful ways.
