How much do you really trust the universe? My last post was on how to trust yourself and your gut feelings that you receive from the universe, but what if you just feel so overwhelmed by fear, worry, or stress that you don't want to think about anything?
What if you just want it to be as easy as possible?
This article is going to be all about how to let go completely and trust the universe instead. To live in a state of surrender is one of the most pleasurable, freeing ways to live. All it requires are a few mindset tweaks and we're on our way to delightful, effortless receiving.
Letting go vs giving up
Before we get started, let's address the difference between letting go/surrendering and giving up.
Giving up means throwing away what you want because you don't believe you can have it. Letting go and surrendering means allowing the universe to handle the details and trusting that you will receive beyond what you could've ever hoped for.
Notice the vast difference? This is why most people who practice conscious manifestation eventually get to a point where they understand that if they are open and surrendered, life unfolds like a dream without any specification on their part.
This is because your inner being is rooted in everything you've ever wanted, and is attracting to you those things at all times. When you let go and get happy, you open the channel for receiving those things.
So we are not giving up anything, we are just laying back and letting the universe do its job much better than we ever could.
How to trust the universe
Trusting the universe is essentially a mindset shift. Your ego will say "but what if this way of thinking isn't true?" And to that I say, what does it matter even if it isn't? You can't control life anyway.
Might as well delude yourself into happiness and joy while you're here. Who's winning, the skeptic who is miserable and living in fear every day, or the blissed out "ignorant" person?
But truly, once you put these mindset shifts into practice, you'll receive proof of their validity pretty quickly. It's a universal law that you attract what you feel.
1. Make peace with reality
Making peace with reality clears up anxiety, regret, and guilt real quick. When you make peace with reality, you trust that everything holds some sort of purpose.
Making peace with reality looks like this:
- That situation was supposed to happen because it did happen
- That thing I said was supposed to be said because I said it
- This experience was supposed to happen because it is happening
Byron Katie always says "How do I know something was supposed to happen? Because it did."
We can't begin to know why things happen (more on that in a moment) but we can trust that there is a higher order to things than we can perceive.
There's never a need to regret or stew over anything, or believe that there is some sort of different action you could've taken to prevent a current reality.
Stop fighting with what-is. It puts you on a never-ending hamster wheel. Instead, observe and accept, and move along. Nothing is permanent unless you cage it in with your focus and resistance.
2. Know there is divine order
Have you ever experienced a time in your life that in hindsight, happened in a perfect, unfolding order that you didn't see at the time?
This is happening all the time! There are no coincidences. While you may not be able to see from your current perspective why something happened the way it did, you have to start trusting that it is part of a higher order of things.
How do you know that the way something unfolded wasn't helpful in some way on a soul level for another person? Or for yourself?
You don't experience something for no good reason. A person doesn't die by accident, no matter what the circumstances or age. And every mistake or hardship is something that expands your awareness every single time.
We have got to stop believing we're so powerless when we have mounting evidence that we are so much more.
It's trending in society right now to deny this truth because it's more comfortable to identify as a victim than to own our infinite and eternal divinity. I read things that say "Don't let anyone tell you this or that was meant to be or that it makes you stronger."
Well I'm sorry to burst their bubble, but they're an infinite soul trying on a role and character to see what it's like from that perspective, and this lifetime is a speck of dust in the entirety that is them.
I choose to expand, observe rather than identify with, and trust that there is always a higher order to things. Nothing in my world is an accident. I ask myself these questions when I'm observing anything "negative" in my life or someone else's:
- How have I changed because of this?
- What have I learned that I didn't know before?
- What else could be true about this situation other than what the unconscious world sees?
3. Open the channel for receiving
In order to fully hand over the wheel to the universe, you need to be over in the passenger's seat, either with your head shooting up through the sunroof or reclined and taking a nap.
Like a baby, it's much easier for the universe to give you what you want when you aren't fighting your own self and trying to control every second! Lay down and shut it already! 😉
We clog the channel by focusing on everything that's wrong or by trying to get so detailed in how we want things to unfold.
When our channel of receiving is open, all of the well-being that is always flowing to us is able to get through. Situations work themselves out, people come out of the woodwork to delight and support you, your body is able to rebalance itself naturally without medicine or surgery, and you didn't have to do anything about any of it!
In order to open our line of receiving from the universe, we just need to chill and become more present. The mind likes to spend the majority of its time living in the past or the future, but the present moment is where inner peace and pleasure is always found.
How can we start opening the channel?
- Discarding negative stories and thoughts when we catch ourselves in that loop
- Being in the moment, fully present–witness life rather than identifying yourself by it
- Following what feels good moment by moment (what would feel good to do right now?)
- Surrendering a fearful thought as soon as you catch them coming up (the chips will fall where they're meant to, and you'll always be guided intuitively to be where you need to be)
4. Appreciate and enjoy
You're at peace with reality most of the time, you practice trusting in a higher order beyond your current viewpoint, and your channel is open more often than it's closed...your only job now is to appreciate and enjoy life.
You don't have to specify what you want to manifest or worry about how something will unfold–all you have to do is feel good. That's all the universe needs on your part.
When you feel good, your vibration raises. When your vibration raises, you come into alignment with your inner being, who is vibrating in the essence of everything you've ever wanted and desired.
Now you begin receiving and finally witnessing the universe work its mysteriously wondrous ways in your life. At this point you begin to lose all the doubts that your ego originally posed, because you've seen firsthand that it does work.
You can lay back and trust that all is well. Because it always is.

Hi Jessica, lately I have been in a mental funk. I have a bad habit of thinking about past scenarios. I paint thousands of possible scenarios in my head and find myself always believing the worst one. It's emotionally draining. A struggle I face in my life is " Does everything happen for a reason? OR am I using that as an excuse for how currently things are??" I would like to believe that things are the way the are, because they are supposed to be that way, and no matter what my current situation is, that the universe will sort everything out one way or the other. Your articles and words are very helpful and I appreciate you sharing them with the world. Thank you.

Hi Dan, thank you for sharing your thoughts. I know I can definitely relate with the painting scenarios and worrying about the worst one. I really do believe everything happens for a reason. That reason could be anything, for the expansion it brings for us personally (new awareness and insights) and/or collectively. I really enjoyed Eckhart Tolle's book The Power of Now for this reason. It brought me out of my head and more into an observer perspective. And I also enjoyed Dr. Michael Newton's book Journey of Souls because it gives so much insight into the why's behind common life experiences from a soul perspective. Thank you again for your thoughts and kind words, Dan! I enjoyed reading them.
