There are lots of vision board ideas out there, but the secret behind the ones that work lie in the emotion within them. You can cut and paste a mansion onto your board, but if it doesn't light you up, it's not going to manifest!
In this post, I'm going to share 5 vision board ideas and how to choose them correctly so that you get buzzed every time you see your board. When you're lit up, things start manifesting!

What a vision board is
A vision board is simply a board you create, either physically or digitally, that represents a desire or experience you want to manifest and that elicits emotion and excitement within you.
Typically it contains images of things you want to be, do or have, as well as quotes and affirmations that help to reprogram your subconscious beliefs.
You could use a vision board for a certain desire, such as manifesting a home or job, or a way of being that you want to evolve towards, like being more present or intuitive, for example.
It's similar to a mood board, because it should be getting you into a certain kind of mood or frame of mind. If you meditate on what your ideal life looks like, and then imagine the frame of mind you would be in inside that ideal life, then you have a starting place with which to create your vision board.
Why do vision boards work?
Vision boards work by visually reminding you of the specific goals you have. Every time you see the board, you're transported emotionally into the mindset necessary for manifestation of these goals and desires.
When you're frequently in the emotional place of a desire as if it's already manifested, you will bring that reality into physical being. It's not a matter of if, but when.
"Putting something on paper, even if not 100% accurate to your wishes, often helps bring greater awareness of your hopes, goals and dreams." James Harrison, Connective Chiropractic.
Furthermore, seeing the images you've placed on your vision board automatically causes you to visualize your life with those things in it. Visualization is one of the most powerful ways to bring your desires into manifestation.
Shannon Rollins, MSHE, says, "Visualization is important because it helps to prepare and to teach you how to respond to a situation before it happens. It also helps you achieve your goals by conditioning your brain to see, hear, and feel the success in your mind."
As one of my favorite law of attraction quotes from Bob Proctor says, "If you can see it in your mind, you will hold it in your hand." This is exactly why vision boards work.
Why do vision boards fail?
A vision board "fails" when there is no emotional connection between the goals on the board and yourself. This can happen when we want things just because others want them, or we aspire towards something our parents want even though it's not our true desire.
Vision boards work because they elicit strong, positive emotions. They don't work if what's on the board doesn't match what's in our hearts.
The world says you should want a high paying job, but maybe you really don't care to have excess money beyond what keeps you content. In this case, a photo of lots of money probably isn't going spark a strong emotional feeling in you.
I know for me personally, a picture of a cozy little house in the woods surrounded by flowers would generate way more positive emotion inside me as opposed to a picture of lots of cash.
Try asking yourself this to avoid creating a vision board that doesn't work for you: if money wasn't a factor, what would I like to be, do, or have?
There is nothing wrong with money, but most of us use it as our means for getting something rather than visualizing the thing we want by itself. Your job isn't to figure out the HOW, only to see the end result.
Put only the things that excite YOU on your vision board if you want powerful results.
How to make a vision board
To make a physical board, you can use anything from cork boards to poster boards. Think about a good space to place it and then decide on the size of your board.
You'll need:
- a board
- push pens or glue
- scissors for cutting images
- wall hook to hang board
Here's some helpful vision board supplies I found on Amazon. I also found a vision board kit that comes with over 60 supplies to make it all super easy.
If you don't have the space or desire to create a physical vision board, you can create a digital one that's just as powerful. More on that in a bit.
5 vision board ideas
The following vision board ideas are quintessential items to have that will elicit emotion within you, as well as help to reprogram your subconscious beliefs.
This is the magic of a vision board: emotion-inducing and belief-changing. The very components of effective manifestation.
1. Good memories
A very easy way to bring yourself into uplifted emotions is to have photographs or mementos from past experiences that you've enjoyed and want to amplify.
For instance, if you want to move to the beach, add photos from a previous beach trip if you can. If you're wanting to manifest love, add some old photos of fun times with friends or other dearly loved ones.
To travel more, maybe add old plane tickets to your board. If the memory elicits the emotions your current desire will bring, then it's a good memory to relive often.
Examples of items that bring back good memories:
- Old photographs
- Mementos
- Pressed flowers
- Old tickets
- Old letters
2. Pictures that excite you
Images that light you up and that stir positive emotion within you are perfect for a vision board. Using pictures cut out of magazines or images printed from the internet, choose things that represent your desire and get you pumped up.
Again..don't choose something that you're supposed to want or that you think represents a desire but doesn't really light you up.
For example, using an image of a Range Rover when you don't fully desire one won't have the same effect as using an image of an old classic pickup that's more in alignment with your dream life.
Always, always, always use images that reflect your idea of a beautiful life and not someone else's. When I was manifesting my home, I focused on what made the inner me excited. The inner me didn't want a modern mansion; she wanted a house out in the country surrounded by trees.
Abundance is a feeling rather than a definition given by society or price tags. When you cater to your inner desires, your vision board will work for you, not against you.
Image examples that bring excitement:
- Your ideal home/car/etc
- Love (couples, hands holding, hearts)
- Abundance (money, specific job positions, accomplishments)
- Places (countries, states, environments, etc)
3. Quotes & Affirmations
Quotes and affirmations help us to really rework our subconscious beliefs. When I first learned about the law of attraction, I looked at quotes daily that I pinned to my vision board as well as posted affirmations around my house.
When you're new to manifesting or are attempting to allow in a desire that you may have blockages around, saturating your mind with new positive beliefs help to release the resistance you're carrying.
You can find these types of quotes by simply searching for "law of attraction quotes/affirmations" on Google or Pinterest. Write or print out the ones you love and pin them to your board.
Examples:
- Self-love affirmations
- Law of attraction quotes
- Money affirmations
- Morning affirmations
- I AM affirmations
4. Detailed elements
Detailed elements are those things that you can viscerally imagine and feel. If there's a home you're wanting to manifest, what is a key component to the house? For me, it was a lot of trees, so a detailed element for me was visualizing a tree-lined driveway rather than the house itself.
It may be difficult to imagine a specific home, but can you feel the wood floors beneath your feet, or the granite countertop under your hands? Can you feel the leather on a car seat or imagine the warmth of another body holding yours?
Find these images and add them to your vision board. They help you to hone in on your desire in a powerful way.
Examples:
- Imagery of a landscape (trees, open desert, city/country scape)
- Materials (wood, marble, granite, leather, satin, etc)
- Physical sensations (being held, hands holding, baby in arms, strong body, etc)
- Desired feeling (lots of zeros on bank statement, zen person, children playing, etc)
5. Song lyrics
Songs are very powerful in their ability to manifest conditions in our lives. When I was manifesting my home, I listened to very specific songs frequently because they elicited strong images and emotions within me of the feeling of my desired type of home.
Think of a song that represents your desire. It could be specific or general, but take your favorite lyric from the song and post it on your board.
When you see your lyric, it could start the song in your head or simply take you to that feeling place.
Song examples:
- Speaks to your desire
- Represents the emotion feeling place of your desire
Online digital vision boards
An online, digital vision board is just as effective as a physical board as long as you remember to check it daily. I have always kept one on Pinterest and would look at it every night before falling asleep. Super powerful!
These days, there are even more options for creating a digital vision board online. Canva actually has free, online vision board maker complete with ready-made templates that you can easily fill in with your own images.
You can use Google or Pinterest to find images that elicit your goals and desires, save them to your phone, and then upload them onto your digital board.
Alternatively, you could create a board on Pinterest, titling it "My Vision Board", and choose if you want to keep it private or not. You can then easily go through Pinterest and pin images to your board.
Remember to add quotes and affirmations along with images that create the FEELING you're going after. Look at your online vision board every night before going to sleep, letting the images and quotes sink down into your mind where they will be incubated in your subconscious while you sleep. That's true magic.
Vision board examples
Below are some vision board examples to get your creative juices flowing. You can go onto any social media platform and search for "my vision board" to find people sharing their dreams and goals on a vision board.

This is a great example of a digital vision board from @katebeddow. I really like how she made it into her desktop background because she'll see it frequently this way.
I also like they way she added their word of the year right in the middle of her board. And "contentment", by the way, is an awesome word of year in my humble opinion!

Here's a beautiful example of a physical vision board by @freckledgirldanielle_plans. I like the way she's added lots of florals, which is probably something that lights her up. She's got her vision in the middle, meaningful-to-her affirmations up in the corner, as well as some power words down at the bottom.

This vision board from @vision.board.kits pretty, sweet, and simple. They have cut out photos of things they want to manifest, as well as added a check from the "Bank of the Universe." Love that! The Secret website offers a free check from the universe PDF on their site if you want to add one as well to your own vision board.
In conclusion
If it lights you up and captures the feeling essence of what you desire to manifest, your vision board is going to powerfully work in the background of your life. Put it somewhere you will easily see every day, and savor the emotions it brings out every time you see it.
Let it get you excited and fill you with the emotions of your desires fully manifested. This reality we're in gives us the grace of focusing things into being at a slower pace, so we've got to trust the process and feel it into existence!
