Today's blog post comes from a reader who asked what to do when you want to give up believing that something is going to manifest.
I have been there in a big way recently, so I'm going to share what I did and how it opened me in a completely new way. Believe it or not, you're in an excellent position and have most likely been led to this very spot by your higher self.
It's time to get back into your flow state!
How to know when to give up on a manifestation
First of all, let's start with replacing "give up" with the word "surrender". Your desires are never given up on. They exist in the field of potentialities and are only waiting to materialize when you let them.
So when should we surrender our desire over to the Universe and let it all go? Only always, but especially when we find ourselves getting too emotionally tangled up in it.
When you're having trouble believing the possibility of your desire manifesting, or find yourself fearful or stressed of its opposite coming true, this is when to focus more on surrendering than on your desire.
What happens if you give up on your manifestation?
A lot of people worry that if they stop actively visualizing or declaring their desire, it will just fade away. I've come to learn that isn't true. Your desire has already been created, and the only thing that can stop it from materializing is your opposing thoughts.
If you lean hardcore in the opposite direction of your desire, this is going to obviously keep it at bay for awhile longer. But dropping it completely and getting happy? Now you're allowing it to wash up on shore.
I used an analogy about myself the other day that my current desire is like this cute bunny, and I've got crazy eyes for it and I'm holding it just a little too tight! I need to relax my grip and let the bunny breathe.
This is what's tricky about manifestation. On the one hand we feel we need to constantly visualize and feel it, and that IS powerful when you have no objecting thoughts or feelings about it.
But if you do have contradicting thoughts or feelings, or if you're fearful of the opposite happening, then you're holding on too tight. You're suffocating it just a little bit! Shifting your focus elsewhere allows your desire the chance to breathe and materialize.
How to stop obsessing over a manifestation
In order to stop obsessing over a manifestation we're desiring, we have to shift our mindset and let our main focus be on our vibrational well-being.
When you're vibrating higher, even if it's just a little more than before, you are actively dissipating the wall around yourself that's keeping out the good stuff. The wall of doubtful, fearful thoughts and beliefs.
Here's 3 ways to let go, surrender, and get back into receiving mode.
Shift into a state of surrender
Giving up implies no longer believing it's going to happen. Surrender is to allow things to fall into place without you trying to control any aspect of it.
We begin to surrender by acknowledging that we will be okay no matter what happens. We may not see how that can be from our current perspective, but we practice coming into a place of acceptance and trust.
What's your biggest fear or worry if your manifestation doesn't happen? Shine the light on this fear (it always makes it a bit smaller, no matter how scary it feels).
Here's a belief to try on if you haven't yet: whatever happens holds a higher order than what I might be able to see.
If your worst nightmare came true–guess what...you would still be okay. You are so much more than you know, and you have so much more support than you realize, both earthly and spiritually.
Facing fears doesn't make them manifest–it makes them smaller and releases the energy around them. It does the opposite of what you fear it will do. Worrying and suppressing holds onto fear; being okay with whatever happens lets it go.
Hand it all over, to your higher self, to the Universe, to God. Whoever or whatever you believe in. Hand it over and let it go. Wash, rinse, and repeat daily.
Your new focus: feeling good
The most powerful tool in your manifestation box is feeling good. If you just focus on feeling the best you can every day, your life will shift, 100% guaranteed.
Surrendering and feeling good is the natural way of your soul. Being in a flow state of openness and trust dissipates the walls we build around ourselves. It allows you to receive everything your inner self truly delights in.
Abraham Hicks said "If all you did was look for things to appreciate, you would live a joyous, spectacular life." When you wake up in the morning and your mind goes to worry or fear, remind yourself that control is just an illusion anyway and start looking for anything you can to appreciate.
If your right arm hurts, appreciate how good the left one feels. Always focus on the good, no matter how little there may seem to be of it. That's how it grows bigger and bigger into your reality–by your focus on it. Focus on the good so that more good can come.
Ask yourself throughout the day "What would feel good to do now?" Even if you're at work, you can ask this question and fulfill it in some small way. It could be "It would feel good to walk around for a few minutes," or "Listening to my favorite podcast while completing this next task would be nice."
What would feel good right now?
Have a mantra & backup tools
All of this stuff takes daily practice. We don't decide to surrender and it just happens–not in my experience, anyway! So it's really helpful to have something to support yourself during mental relapses back into fear or worry.
When I find myself going into that mental space of doubt, worry, or fear, it helps so much to have something to say to myself in the moment to help me get back into a state of surrender. Here are a few ideas:
- "One day at a time."
- "The Universe is taking care of this for me."
- "I will end up where I need to be at the right time."
- "I am eternally safe."
- "I surrender this to my higher self."
- "I trust in Divine timing."
- "There are no wrong choices."
- "I will not miss what's meant for me."
Choose a phrase that brings relief, and then say it when you feel any fearful thought creeping in. Also consider activities that help to ground you as further tools you can implement to help calm your heart.
For me, journaling is my first go-to. It helps to unravel my thoughts, shine a light on my fears, and creates a channel for inner wisdom to come though. It's a free therapy session with my higher self, essentially.
Other things you could do are EFT tapping, using the Ho'oponopono prayer, stretching/moving your body, reading books that bring your mindset back into a healthy place, or any number of grounding exercises.
Conclusion
Surrendering, getting yourself into a flow state, looking for the good, and soothing yourself back into alignment are all key when you're feeling defeated, scared, or frustrated.
It's a daily practice, so don't feel bad when you catch yourself back in the throws of anxious feelings. You're much, much more amazing than you probably realize. You've got this.
